Assesment of the work of satff nurses in determining body temperatures of hospitalized children in Kerman university hospital No۱

in this study the accuracy of one of the vital signs(boyd temperature) reported by the nursing staff was compared with the reporting of the control group,in order to find the problems and ways to solve them.to do this,۱۱۷ body temperatures reported from hospitalized patients in pediatrics wards in Kerman university No۱ hospital were analused.samples were gathered by clustering method from different working sifts.patients body temperatures were taken from the armpit and were compared with the temperature recorded by the nurses in the patients files.of ۱۱۷ recorded temperatures measured in different patients a total of ۱۰۲ cases met the criteria and were included in the study.the mean recorded temperatures in the nursing group was ۷۳.۵+_۰.۲۶c and in control group was ۳۶.۵۳+_۰.۷۲c (p<۰.۰۰۰۱).the range of variation in the two groups was -۲.۵ to _۲.۴c with the mean of deviation ۰.۷۵+_۰.۵c.based on this,we fined four levels of differences:with an error ۰ to ۰.۵c(۳۹.۲%).a mild error ۰.۶to ۱ c (۳۷.۳%).a moderate error ۱.۱ to۱.۵(۱۶.۷%),and a gross error more than ۱.۵c(۶.۹%).the differences observed between the two groups were statistically significant.due to the decrease in sensitivity of armpit temperatures when the body temperature is high and an increase in personnel,s error,we recommend that in the patients in whon the body temperatures could be dangerous,body temperature should be taken analy and by an experienced personel.
