Introduction: In modern metropolises, shopping malls play a significant role in shaping urban landscapes and affecting the lives of citizens. The visual aesthetics of malls contribute significantly to their impact on citizens' emotions and attitudes. The use of a variety of materials, textures, and colors within mall design can create a stimulating and pleasing environment, positively influencing citizens' moods. The incorporation of sustainable design practices in mall architecture has gained significant attention in recent years. Eco-friendly features, such as green spaces, natural lighting, and energy-efficient systems, not only contribute to environmental conservation but also affect citizens' well-being. Research shows that sustainable malls can create a sense of happiness and pride among customers, reflecting their concern for the environment. Mall architecture often incorporates panoramic views, either of the surrounding cityscape or visually appealing interior spaces. Malls that provide diverse services such as recreational facilities, art displays, performance spaces, and community gathering areas tend to foster a positive atmosphere and a greater sense of satisfaction among visitors. Aims: This systematic review & meta-analysis aims to examine the impact of malls on the sense of happiness or potential bother experienced by urban dwellers. By considering various aspects including form, material and colors, space circulation and accesses, architectural sustainability, use of the view, and pleasant function, this study seeks to provide valuable insights into the relationship between malls and citizens' well-being. Methods: To conduct this meta-analysis, a comprehensive study of existing literature, research papers, and reports relevant to the topic was employed. The data was collected from various academic databases up until September ۲۰۲۳. The selected studies were then analyzed to identify common themes and trends related to malls in metropolises. Conclusion: Based on the analysis of available data, it can be observed that malls have the potential to influence citizens' well-being in metropolises. Factors such as visually appealing forms, efficient space circulation, sustainable design practices, pleasant views, and diverse functions within malls play crucial roles in creating a sense of happiness among urban dwellers. Implementing these design considerations can lead to improved urban experiences, positively impacting the overall quality of life in metropolises.
