چکیده مقاله:

Nowadays marine and ocean ecosystem are widely investigated as a huge source of biological resources to help human to provide many nutritional and medicinal requirements. Medicinal applications of macroalgae have a long history especially in Asian countries. Among different groups of macroalgae, brown algae are more interested due to their sulfated polysaccharides which cause anticancer, antioxidant, antiviral, antibacterial and other medicinal uses. Genus Sargassum as a common and cosmopolitan macroalgae in tropical and subtropical areas is one of the important algae in the world. In recent years many studies especially in Asian countries have been carried out on anticancer and also antioxidant activities of different species of Sargassum. This paper is a review on the recent studies especially those carried out between years of 2000 to 2016 with an emphasis on researches which have been done on antioxidant and anticancer activities of Sargassum spp. especially from Persian Gulf
