چکیده مقاله:

Growth and activity of bacteria can occur throughout the crude oil production chain from seawater injection pipelines, the reservoir, oil production facilities and pipelines, crude oil storage tanks. The bacteria produce biofilms and sulfate-reducing bacteria may dominate areas ofthebiofilms, and when this occurs localized and severe corrosion cells may be produced which becomes self perpetuating. A possible explanation often formation of these cells is outlined based on present knowledge of corrosion by iron sulfides, hydrogenise activity and possible electrochemical reactions. Procedures for identifying the presence and activity of the SRB are available and reliable; the rate of corrosion can be estimated, but identifying the location of corrosion remains elusive. An overview of the main trends and development are given including identification of SRB, taxonomy, rapid enumeration techniques, biofilms, biocides and monitoring. .Areas of 'ignorance' are noted where relevant
