چکیده مقاله:
S100B protein has been introduced recently in studies as a new biomarker for breast cancer, according to its probable role in tumor progression and invasion. However, these studies have not consideredmany confounding factors which are effective S100B serum level and also they are performed on metastatic breast cancer. So the aim of this study was evaluation of S100B protein in non-metastaticbreast cancer without any confounding factors. Seventy-nine breast cancer patients who fulfilled inclusion and exclusion criteria enrolled in study. Before any adjuvant chemotherapy or surgery, peripheral blood samples were collected and serum level of S100B protein was determined by using ELISA kit. The usual breast cancer clinical and pathological variables were also collected. All patients follow up for 5 years particularly regarding cancer recurrence and patients’ survival. Forty-two percent of the patients experienced no recurrence after five years. Cumulative risk of recurrence 5 years after the beginning of the study was 0.86. There was no significant correlation between serum level of protein S100B and recurrence rate in 5 years (p=0.59,p> 0.05). According to the results, the serum levels of S100B protein may have no prognostic role in breast cancer
