چکیده مقاله:

Chemokines are implicated in tumor pathogenesis. In this respect, CC chemokine receptor 5 (CCR5) is a specific modulator of the immune response. The CCR5 gene maps to chromosome 3p21.31. Studies suggest that CCR5 activity influences human breast cancer progression in a p53-dependent manner. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of CCR55delta32 and its association with breast cancer in 500 individuals (200 cases and 300 controls) in North East of Iran.We genotyped 300 healthy individuals and also 200 breast cancer patients using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) based allelic discrimination method.286 controls (95.33%) had wild/wild (W/W) genotype, 14 samples (4.66%) had wild/deletion (W/D) genotype and deletion/deletion (D/D) genotype was nil (0%) amongst controls. While 186 samples of patients (93%) had W/W genotype, 14 samples (7%) had W/D and none of them were (0%) D/D homozygous. The patients and control genotypes were in the Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium (p> 0.05). The frequency of allele D in the patients was more than the control group (0.035 vs. 0. 0.023, respectively). WW genotype could confer a protective effect (35%) compared with WD genotype although it was not significant (Pvalu= 0.269).Our study indicated that there is no significant association between the CCR5 W/D variation and risk of breast cancer, although D allele may confer some degrees of risk in breast cancer patients
