Today, one of the biggest problems in urban area is traffic safety. According to the world health organization in 2015, more than 1 million people died and more than 50 million people have been injured as a result of road traffic crashes. They are the leading cause of death among young people aged between 15 and 29 years, and cost governments approximately 3% of GDP. Iran has one of the highest rates of traffic accident fatalities and injuries. In 2014, 16872 road traffic fatalities reported by Traffic Police.Many parameters affect the increase or decrease of traffic safety in urban areas. In this paper, 14 main parameters were evaluated in urban areas and after completing thequestionnaire by experts and using the TOPSIS software key performance indicators were obtained. Public transportation length, Safety infrastructure, Population density, Speed, Street lighting, Street Length, Functional level of the street, Street width, Land Use, Traffic rules and regulation, Drivers behavior, Public and commercial buildings, Weather Conditions and Number of crashes at intersections are parameters that have been evaluated in urban area. As a result, the six selected key performance indicators are specified.
