Correlated Solubility of Textile Dyes in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide by Several Density- Based Models

For the proper design of supercritical fluid dyeing process, it is essential to have a sound knowledge of the solubility of dyes and the accurate solubility representation. In this work, four semi empirical density based models (the Del Valle and Aguilera model, the Sung and Shim model, the Yu et al. model and the Gordillo et al. model) are employed to correlate solubility of textile dyes in supercritical carbon dioxide. The accuracy of four empirical equations is evaluated by calculating the percentage of relative deviation (RD) as well as the mean RD values. The solubility equations are correlated to the mentioned models and the mean RD values of the equations are determined as 8.99, 7.40, 27.7, and 10.43, respectively. The mean RD of the Yu et al. equation is significantly greater than those obtained from other empirical models. As a result, the Del Valle and Aguilera, the Sung and Shim and the Gordillo et al. models were selected as appropriate models for prediction of solubility of the studied dyes in supercritical CO2.
