چکیده مقاله:
Congenital tumors occur infrequently. They are not the same as tumors observed in the olderchildren in respect to clinical behavior, occurrence in a semiprotected environment and highrate of curability. Viral infection is one of the key factors involved in carcinogenesis. The aimof this study was to assess whether viral DNAs are present in the congenital tumors or not.Nucleic acid extraction was performed from 31 congenital tumors and subjected to PCR fordetection of EBV, CMV, Adenovirus, HSV1 and 2, HHV6 and BK virus. Infection wasfound in 8 patients, most commonly adenovirus and also CMV and HHV6. Despite their lowfrequencies it may be a probable association of viral infections with tumor development orprogression. The presence of adenovirus in congenital tumors suggests its possiblecontributory role in development of these tumors.
