Evaluation of frequency of salivary glands tumors in hospitals and pathological centers of hamedan during 2000-2014

چکیده مقاله:

Background: There are malignant and benign lesions of salivary gland. Reevaluation of paitants’age, sex and location of lesions can help to have better diagnosis and accurate comparison with other studies in other countries.Material and Methods:This is a prospective and descriptive study. In a 14-year period, all patients with initial diagnosis of salivary gland tumors whom underwent surgical Procedure in all hospital hamedan, were evaluated. Their diagnosis confirmed by histopathology.Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results:117 patients were studied, comprising 43.6% men and 56.4% women.Out of all cases,52.67% were classified as benign and 47.33% as malignant. Pleomorphic adenoma with 73 cases and mucoepidermoid carcinoma with 12 cases were the most common benign and malignant tumors,respectively. Age groups 30-39 years and 60-69 years were the most common affected patients in benign and malignant tumors,respectively.The majority of cases occurred in the parotid gland. Conclusion:Parotid gland is the principal site of salivary gland tumours, females are most affected and plemorphic adenoma is the most common benign tumour, while mucoepidermoid carcinoma is the commonest malignant tumour.
