چکیده مقاله:

Background: Therapeutic team faces many challenges for the treatment of acute phase in elderly patients, with regard to age and different responses to shock and trauma. Primary care in the elderly trauma plays an important role in preventing complications and other complications associated with the disease in the elderly. Guidelines such as the Practice Management Guidelines (PMGs) include High Risk Geriatric Protocol (HRGP) and Anticoagulation and Trauma Alert (ACT) in the acute phase in these patients. Objectives: This study reviews the studies about effective protocols to improve the outcomes of trauma in the elderly.Materials & Methods: In this literature review, the databases of PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar were searched. 15 studies that had inclusion criteria (from 2000 to 2018, related to the subject of study, and English and Persian language) were selected. Results: The findings showed that the uses of PMGs such as HRGP and ACT have significant roles in reducing mortality and complications, and improving outcomes. In these patients, the use of HRGP and ACT has been very helpful in the diagnosis of patients that are at risk of shock. Therefore, the multidisciplinary team can do their therapies better. Conclusion: Elderly patients are at risk of complications after trauma. The use of guidelines and special attention to the elderly trauma resulted by physiological and cognitive problems in this age group is essential to improve the outcomes of treatment and recovery for all therapists
