چکیده مقاله:

Backgrounds:Brain injury is one of the most common types of trauma and is the most important causes of mortality among people injured in various accidents. Driving accidents and falling from the height are the common causes of head trauma in children. Knowledge of epidemiological information on trauma in children helps to plan for preventing these events accurately. Therefore, this study aimed to investigatethe epidemiology of traumatic head trauma and brain injury in children.Methods:114 patients (age ≤ 15 years) with head trauma, who were admitted to trauma ward of Imam Reza hospital in 2018, were enrolled in the study. Data was collected using checklist. Information such as the mechanism of trauma, gender, age, trauma along, death from trauma, operation, season of trauma, Hb, systolic BP and HR of the patient were collected. Results:The mean age of the patients was 6.52 ± 3.95 years and most of them (70.2%) were male. Traumas occurred mostly in the spring (27.2%) and summer (32.5%). The most common traumatic mechanisms were driving accidents (pedestrians or passenger) (55.3%) and falling from height (39.5%), respectively. The most common traumatic brain event was EDH (9.6%). 8 patients (7.17%) underwent surgery. Finally 8 patients (7.17%) died. Conclusion:Falling and accidents are the main causes of head trauma in children, so planning to promote parent culture in this regard can be effective. Prevention of accidents can also play an important role in reducing brain trauma injury.
