THE IMPACT OF PERSONALITY TRAIT ON TRANSLATION QUALITY: A CASE OF INTROVERTED AND EXTROVERTD TRANSALTORS

The present study aims at exploring whether a translator’s personality affects his performance. In other words, the present article tries to investigate if there is a difference between the introverted and extroverted translators’ performance. In order to collect the required data, 40 Iranian translation students of Imam Reza University at the advanced level of English proficiency, aged 20-22 were randomly selected to participate in this study. To test the participants’ proficiency level, they took a proficiency test and advanced students were selected. Three instruments were also used: an English-Persian and a Persian-English translation test as well as an interview. The translation test was used to find out the participants’ translation quality and the interview tried to determine their personality type. The results of independent samples t-tests for English-Persian (t40= 7.073, p= 0.000<0.05) and Persian-English (t40= 7.073, p= 0.000<0.05) tests revealed that the introverted participants outperformed the extroverted ones in both tests
