Nowadays, residential villas are growing in number in northern parts of Iran, especially in tourist-friendly cities like Ramsar. Heated individually by conventional fossil fuel burning boilers, these villas are harming the environment by emitting notable amounts of combustion gases to the atmosphere. However, with many geothermal sources with a temperature estimated at approximately 39 Celsius degrees, Ramsar has excellent potential for exchanging fossil fuels for sustainable sources; Thus contributing to the global act of greenhouse gas emission reduction. In this paper, an effort was made to design a district heating system using heat pumps powered by the electricity grid to provide comfort for the residents of villas as well as energy conservation, using available geothermal energy as their primary heat source.
