چکیده مقاله:
The study is aimed to investigate the effect of teaching critical thinking on descriptive and narrative English writing performance of Iranian EFL learners. To this end, 50 intermediate EFL male and female students, who were studying at Shokuh institute in Garmeh were chosen through convenience sampling. The participants in this study were assigned to two equivalent groups of 25 learners. The experimental groups received 5 sessions of critical thinking instruction in descriptive and narrative writing. To collect the data, the participants were given two essays in descriptive and narrative writing as pretest and posttest. In order to analyze the data t-test was run. The results of the t-test revealed in narrative writing there was a significant relationship between the results obtained from the pretest and posttest but no significant relationship was reported for descriptive essays. Consequently, it could be concluded that teaching critical thinking was effective in improvement of narrative writing of Iranian EFL students.
