Reliability improvement is one of the important goalsfor distribution companies. Use of automatic devicessuch as recloser and autosectionlizer (R&AS) canreduce the amount of interrupted load during the faultsand the restoration time. Determination of optimallocation of these automatic devices is a combinationaland complex problem. In this paper, a methodologybased on cost/benefit analysis for optimal R&ASallocation in distribution systems is proposed. Theobjective function is considered minimizing the costsof distribution system reliability with regard to theeffect of load types and investment and maintenancecosts of R&ASs. Applied method for solving theproblem is based on Hybrid Big Bang-Big Crunch(HBB-BC) algorithm and Monte Carlo simulation. TheHBB-BC algorithm is an effective and powerfulmethod that has high accuracy and fast convergence aswell as its implementation is easy. In this algorithmPSO capacities and mutation operation are used toimprove the exploration ability of the BB-BC algorithmand avoid local optimum. The proposed algorithm istested on the real 28-bus distribution system in Qazvin,Iran. Simulation results indicate the efficientperformance of the proposed algorithm.
