چکیده مقاله:

The present paper is a study on Elif Shafak’s The Bastard of Istanbul, viewed based on Homi Bhabha’s theories. The relation between colonizer and colonized is complicated and regards cultural confusion, loneliness, the influence of local on target culture and vice versa, and downs and outs problems. Homi k.Bhabha passes the borders of social levels, nationality and gender, expands his study and calls the identity as a concept that is shaped in cultural differences and transformations. He believes there is a space where the ideas and languages are transformed between the colonized and the colonizer, and this inevitable process of negotiation may never be complete. This is called ‘third space of enunciation’. Applying concepts of hybridity and unhomeliness to Elif Shafak’s The Bastard of Istanbul and Honor, the researcher concluded that people are enabled to challenge the well-ordered and stable categories such as national identity and stereotypical notions by which those emigrants are defined. Further, in liminal space they never feel like home
